Review

This intensely rich and full album is an atmospheric collection of eerie space music which takes the listener to the borders of the ethereal worlds with synthesizers and flute improvisations. Quiet Night is the third in a trilogy of multi-stylistic works that include Chrysanthemum and At the Waters Edge. The sounds on this recording are varied and complex, with the flute acting as the highlight of most songs. The instruments, which are all played by Daniel include five and six holed flutes, tenor quena, clay ocarinas, penny whistle, snake whistle, digital and analgue synthesizers, and percussion. In Dark Day, the flute is used as a connection between the outer and inner worlds - gently flowing flute notes and haunting synthesizers. Familiar Strangers is upbeat and lighter, like a brisk walk on a cool morning. Wonderful percussion and rhythmic melody. Quiet Night accentuates both intense monorhythmic drumming and flute playing which resembles a bird call.
