Group Du Jour’s first full-length album since 1992’s “The Mystery Plays”, Terra Incognita is a return to the classic techno-ethnic sound that has made GDJ such a unique band: “instantly recognizable... captivating... a landscape at once modern & urban, medieval and natural” (The Oregonian). Utilizing unusual instrumental accompaniment (ethnic percussion, flutes, fretless bass) alongside electric guitar, keyboards, drum programs and vocals – GDJ stretches the imagination of rock beyond mainstream boundaries to create music that is original and refreshing. On the opening track “Twilight Torches” the menace of Paul Parker’s electric guitar and Daniel Crommie’s melodious flute excursions blend nicely with Bo Parker’s powerhouse acoustic rhythm guitar, while the experimental three-part instrumental “Hypnoteque” with its’ shifting textures, themes and instrumentation recalls the avante garde edge the band is known for. Bo Parker turns in fine vocal performances on other folk/rock/jazz influenced originals that punctuate Terra Incognita in Group Du Jour’s welcome return.
