The Last Thing I Remember seems the perfect follow-up to Daniel Crommie’s 2005 release “Sargasso Manuscript” – yet it is a completely different animal altogether: once again, a collection of flute-based instrumentals – but this time inspired by sleep, the lack thereof, restful interludes and strange incomprehensible dreams inhabited by familiar strangers. The swirling, sometimes dizzying flutes are supported by an array of other-worldly layers of ambient electronica, processed alien flutes, electric dulcimer - and on occasion, hypnotic rhythms and melodies. The album starts with dusk birdsong (“Even Song”) as the listener is lulled to slumber - various sleep stages follow, leading to a variety of dream states and concluding with the “Dawn song”. Be prepared for a wildly original, ambient and dynamic psychedelic medieval jazz experience.
